Message from the Author

I felt like I should’ve died. My deployment to Afghanistan was nothing short of grueling. The constant danger and uncertainty in that war-torn land made it feel like death was always just around the corner.

Every day, I witnessed people, both friends and strangers, succumbing to the harsh realities of war. It was a time when survival itself felt like a miraculous feat, and I couldn’t help but wonder why I was spared when so many others weren’t.

Some of the events from my first two books did happen to me while in the country. Those memories live in my mind like a dream one constantly has that they can’t escape.

The bombs, bullets, and constant state of terror were something many of us had to live with each day. Still, we faced it head-on and didn’t let the shadows in our minds steal our focus on coming home alive.

I’m a retired veteran who served twenty years in the United States Air Force. I’m also a new author, and spend most of my time writing, playing video games, hanging out with friends on Discord, listening to music, reading/listening to books, and watching my favorite movies and TV shows.

I like writing while sitting in quiet corners with my hoodie on, watching people, and creating new characters and stories. For me, writing is an escape from reality. I do it because it makes me feel like I can conquer my fears. If you’re someone who writes as an escape from the harsh realities of this world, I’m with you. And if you’re someone looking for an escape, then give writing a try.

Remember, everyone has a story to tell.

From one of my favorite characters, Tate, and now to you, I say this:

Step out of the shadows and into the light. Do not dwell on the past. There’s nothing for you back there. Look forward, take the first step, and break free from what’s holding you back.

With all my love,

~ Jen
